AY 07/08 Year 1 Sem 2 Results

(I am editing this for the third time) Oops.

Time passes really fast (especially this semester) and zoom it is 30th May, the day of the RELEASE OF RESULTS. I wanted to do the peeling down of the results one by one but Im glad i did not do that (Neither did i call.. think i may faint first), u will know why afterwards. I locked myself in the room this afternoon. Tried to sleep before that and it sorta worked a bit.

This sem results is, to me, good overall. Just that I really hope that I wont get any B- for any module in my 4 years in NUS. But, this dream is shattered. However, I must be contented with my results, which i am (just feeling a slight tinge of sadness for my first B- module)

Results:

INTRODUCTION TO ECONOMIC ANALYSIS - A+
THE BIOPHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT OF SINGAPORE - B+
LEISURE, RECREATION AND TOURISM - A
TERRESTIAL AND COASTAL ENVIRONMNET - A
INTRODUCTION TO PSYCHOLOGY - B-

Yupp CAP: 4.4 (Overall)

Some comments about my results:

EC1101E, LRT and TERRESTIAL was unexepected. Seriously. This results I believe, in part was because of my CA which did quite well. Biophysical was expected and psychology was unexpected (cos I thought I can pull up to a 'B').

Would like to thank Prof Chia for her guidance in EC1101E, Prof Chang for his guidance in LRT and Wenjian, Pearlly and Jocelyn for their help in the LRT Project, Dr Lim Han She for her guidance in Biophysical and Terrestial, yuna, matthew, yanqing, wenjian, minghan, xuanyi as my project groupmates in the 2 modules), Manisha for giving last minute help in psychology, Chunkit and Yong Xian as my psychology lect ad tutorial mate respectively. Also would like to thanks winnie and geog soc friends and seniors for theie help and encouragement.

THANK YOU VEYR MUCH!

I realised as I am in Cambodia for CIP, I did not blogged about my year 1 sem 1 results ( I think I didn't...). Just as a comparison:

PLACE ENVIRONMENT AND SOCIETY - A+
CITIES IN TRANSITION - A-
OUR ATMOSPHERE: A CHEMICAL PERSPECTIVE - B+
ASIA AND THE MODERN WORLD - B+
SOUTHEAST ASIA: A CHANGING REGION- A-

CAP: 4.4

Thanks to everyone for their help in my first sem (all my lecturers, TAs project group mates and friends)

Ok back to this sem...

Imagine I peel off my results one by one down my laptop screen, greeting me at the end will be my first EVER B-. So luckily I did not.

I am contented and work hard Jonathan.

Reflection on Life

Visiting Ah-Peng and SJ's Grandma's Wake on Sunday made me reliase that life is so fragile. A lot of things can be changed simply overnight, be it for worse or for better. In Dec 2007, Ah-Peng was still a very active elderly, who makes clay figurines for NDP and stuff. Now, he was lying in hospital. Though he still makes a point to talk to us, it made us feel bad as we cannot do anything about his condition. Hopefully , by visiting him, it can lift up his spirits and hope that he can make a smooth recovery to full health.

Life is unpredictable. I must indeed quote my sister after that day (i know some may disagree) but still - We must enjoy life while we can. Who knows what might happen?

I feel quite depressed on that day i must say and I sincerely hope that everyone i know will be happy and healthy always.

On a lighter note, I realised that I said Good Morning to Prof Skelton twice when it is in the afternoon. And she corrected me, twice.

A Conversation That Surprises and Stunned me

To you.

I thought I got over it. And I was on the verge of forgetting when we chatted cos u initiated the conversation. Then i realised I did not get over.

But inside me, though there is sadness, there is a tinge of happiness. I hope the conversation dont end, bur I know I must end it soon before I sink inside again.

I can do it. Yes.

Sounders Outing ~ something different?

Sounders are back in EAST COAST PARK. We have decided to do something differnt today - not the usual weight gaining activity (Wee, 2008) of Kboxing, Board Game Cafe, Food and Chat session etc.

We decided to learn some mew skill (or sport) today. For me and yuexin, we are learning how to rollerblade. Ya i know to some it will be like 'Oh my, you dont know how?' but anyway, I learnt how to rollerblade already!

It is really nice learning from the sounders (all of us fell once or another)... so is quite funny.

And the Gossip session was on as usual.

I got sunburn too.

Before the event at subway

Blading Begins

Cycling thereafter!

Overseas Field Trip - Geog Soc Spirit Shines

It only 1 week after the exams, and it felt like it has been a long time. Geog Soc went Malaysia for holidays from 12 – 15 May! It was a very fun trip, with loads of laughter and attempts not to discuss about work (which at times failed). On the very day of departure, we were stressed and sad. Yuna and Heather did not join us for the trip.

It was a rather long bus ride there and we sort of cam-whored for a few times. The ride there was a tiring one and most of us slept our way there. Luckily there is a prata- stop along the way! Upon reaching the place, we saw our FIRST WORLD HOTEL. It was quite ok from the inside but the outside was, ‘hideous’ (Png, 2008). The colour combination was simply wierd. Our rooms are quite decent and the first day of our Overseas Field Trip (OFT) began.

It was 2plus when we reached Genting and all of us were so so hungry. Despite that, we decided to dress-up for our high-class dinner. Lunch was a simple fare and Mary Brown. Dinner was at Happy Valley (we did not know why it was called valley when it is so high in the mountains). The dinner cost us only 50cents more than our lunch. We counted the number of stalks of vegetables we ate. And after dinner, we started off day-dreaming what we will do if we win jack-pot – e.g. sponsoring GC, rebuilding our Geog Building etc. The end results was totally deviant from where we start. In short, it can be summarised as ‘Chang, Chang, Chang, Chang ... Huang!’ (42nd MC, NUS GS, 2008) which later evolved to ‘Chang, Chang, Chang, Chang ... Huang ... Kong!’ (42nd MC, NUS GS, 2008). We sat cable car too, just for the fun of it (down and up Genting). Of course, we cam-whored almost all the way, discussing about the fake Rafflesia, different types of vegetation, climate etc. Erm, thats a bit Geog-ish, but we are Geographers! The night was spent partying and we made an MV. Simply put, it was a improvisation of ‘Captain Planet’ with an element of Climate Change and ‘Geog Soc Spirit Shine’ (Wang, 2008). OH MY GOODNESS, the MV as the most hilarious thing we have done, and we recorded it twice somemore. NG for the first time, thanks to Ms Beejooks who cannot spin up in time.

The ‘Theme-Park’ day marks our second day. Yes! All of us are eagerly awaiting this time of our Genting Trip. Breakfast was at First World Cafe and it was really crowded. Food was not exactly nice but still acceptable. We bought the ALL PARKS tickets and it cost us 51 Ringgit. I cannot exactly remember the rides in order but some more memorable ones are the FLYING COASTER, which I sat twice! Oh my goodness (again), I actually sat that! It was very very thrilling and I never regretted sitting that ride though it cost 10 Ringgit more. Cyclone and Viking was fun too and we are a bit anti-climax. During the second ride, we sort of have a ‘silent ride’. There were no screaming and shouting, totally ‘coldness’. The more daring ones went to sit the ‘commit suicide’ tower while the others went to sit the ferris-wheel. Oh and Mr Chan and Ms Kelly went on their own to the indoor theme park. Caterpillar was erm... slow but windy. Some rides were closed down but nevertheless, it was fun and exciting. Lunch was at Kenny Rogers and dinner was chicken rice.

Malacca was HOT, HOT and very HOT! Felix Inn was nice and comfy for a budget hotel. Our lunch timing is once again screwed up but we have chicken rice balls  Then we went around walking around. Dinner was SUPERB. All of us, except the 3Ps, went to eat A&W. Oh my goodness (third time), we took 3 cabs there, just to eat the ‘so-long-never-eaten’ A&W. Geographers’ Cafe was our final pitstop and we bought 23 shirts.

The last was a mad mad rush for last minute shopping. After a fast lunch at the HK Cafe, a few of us chiong to shop and I ran into a budget deficit. It was really fun.
Hmmm, the bus ride home was eh.. a bit nausea-ish (Lim, 2008; Png, 2008; Wang, 2008). And Kelly had her virgin experience of sitting on a Lorry.

Some nice quotes to remember from this journey:
1. ‘Chang, Chang, Chang, Chang ... Huang!’ (42nd MC, NUS GS, 2008)
2. ‘Spoil’ (Phua, 2008)

Thursday, May 15, 2008

Back from Malaysia!

I am back!

It was a fun-filled, enjoyable, enriching experience!
We have essentially REST, RELAX, REJUVENATE and RECOVER!

Perhaps a bit 'SPOIL'(Phua, 2008)

Tomorrow we will be seeing each other again, for open house, FIC and GC.
Someone! Prep for surprise tomorrow!

* will be uploading some photos tomorrow*

Joey Yung's Concert Banner

Oh my goodness! Someone familiar is INSIDE! (GASP)

Psychology Paper - Over (Physically and perhaps Grade-ly too)

I got SCOLDED today.

Haiz. Relieved after the much anticipated PSYCHOLOGY paper, it was relatively bad and that many people feedback is that it is sort of un-do-able. But given my not good grades in my PSYCHOLOGY, i SINCERELY hope that my overall can get at least a 'B'. Yup, a B will DRAGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG my C.A.P down like nobody's business, but a B is better than a B- (like duh!)

Anyway, PSYCHOLOGY is OVER. YES! YES! YES! And I have a happy time filing all my psychology notes into files, untagging Kep Kee's textbook and prepare myself to return them the book!

One more paper to go: LEISURE, RECREATION, and TOURISM!
JIA YOU!!!
