Concluding note...

After 5 intensive weeks of reading, printing, typing, writing, complaining, joking, bitching, gathering and of course STUDYING, the NUS – IARU Global Summer School has officially come to an end after the closing dinner today.

Looking back, these 5 weeks passed very fast, especially after the start of the fieldtrip to Thailand. Our orientation was to museums, Little Thailand where we first mingled with the Yales and Copenhagen. It was quite fun, but tiring. The first week was, to me something unexpected as I had never, in my entire 1 year in NUS read so much in a day, continuously for 1 week. Assignments start to come in in week 2 and 3. Before we know it, we went Melaka and did a fieldtrip report as well as conduct interviews for HY2250 oral history project. Early morning came and all of us headed for the Budget Terminal for our flight to BKK. We had lessons, stayed in homestays, shopped in BKK, meditate in temples and spent a lot in 7-11. Bus journeys were long and at times overnight ( that is when we saw many unglam and sleepy faces too). Flew from BKK to Cambodia in a once in a lifetime flight – siem reap airways (with the propeller kind). Service was good though and the view was beautiful. Visited AKW again but this time, I saw things and understood them in a different light. Coming back from Cambodia, there is a 3000 word report to write. I broke another record yet again. I spent 1.5 days doing a full essay. ¼ day outlining, 1 day writing, ¼ day editing. Handup. Exams today. It was quite informal I think. Closing dinner today and suddenly I felt a sense of nostalgia. Then, the reason why I want to go SEP was to freeze my CAP but now, going overseas is to visit my Danish friends.

Thank you Prof Miksic, Dr Pattana, and Dr Platt AND all who have been through this journey to me. I love SUMMER SCHOOL, and hopefully my grades don’t sux (at least 2 Bs please) and I never regretted joining it.

Module Preference Exercise

I have decided (in the most abrupt and messy way) on my modules. Though a 4 day week, the exam schedule isnt too well (cram up for 4 days, then rest for 1 week before the last exam)

Modules decided:

GE3231: Natural Hazards
GE3237: Geographies of Migration
SE3214: Marketing Southeast Asia Heritage
HY2229: Nation Building
SSD2210: Managing Singapore's Build Environment

Haiz think 3 level 3 is super doomed....
